Color of a Champion
Most sports figures have some kind of superstition. Whether it’s their favorite socks, pre-game warm-up, or celebration dance. For Angel Cabrera, his luck stems from the yellow shirt. Cabrera has worn the same color shirt when he secured a win at the U.S. Open at Oakmont, and two big European Tours, the Benson & Hedges, and BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, and now the Masters.

Luckily for Cabrera, yellow is a perfect color to wear underneath the coveted green jacket, won at the Masters. Cabrera won the tournament, in a play-off with Kenny Perry in which Cabrera putted an 18-footer to secure his victory. Cabrera, in his yellow shirt and green jacket will never forget the putter used to secure the win, especially since Cabrera will also receive a nice accessory to compliment the green jacket, a gold putter.

Ping Golf has a tradition of hand-delivering to the winner of major tournaments, a sold gold replica of the putter used to secure victory. This will be Cabrera’s second gold putter. Ping’s founder started the tradition, awarding the winner of The Masters with a gold-plated putter, but when his son took over in 1995, he decided to make a tradition of his own, awarding all major champion winners with a sold gold putter.

Augusta has a tradition of asking the winner of the Master’s to donate one of their clubs, usually the club that was most helpful in securing the victory. I have a feeling that Cabrera will be donating a putter, although it is not likely that it will be gold. Who knew that a little yellow could bring so much success!
